HashiCorp Terraform Certification — How to Register & Take the Exam
Two HashiCorp Terraform certifications: the Associate (004), the lowest-cost exam in the catalog at $70.50, and the lab-based Authoring & Operations Professional at $295. Online only. 2-year validity.
Version note: Effective January 8, 2026, the Terraform Associate (003) was retired and replaced by Terraform Associate (004). All new registrations are 004. HashiCorp also moved Associate exam delivery from PSI to Certiverse for the 004 launch. The Terraform Authoring & Operations Professional is a separate, hands-on lab exam.
CertLabPro covers two HashiCorp Terraform certifications: the multiple-choice Terraform Associate (004) and the hands-on Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional. The Associate is delivered via Certiverse; the Professional is a lab-based exam taken in a pre-provisioned Linux environment. Registration for both happens through HashiCorp's certification portal.
HashiCorp's exam delivery partner is Certiverse (HashiCorp moved away from PSI for the 004 launch). Click Get Certified to be redirected to the Certiverse registration portal.
Create a Certiverse account, link your HashiCorp Developer ID (used for badge issuance), and pay.
2. Delivery options
Online proctored only via Certiverse. No test centers.
Requirements: Chrome on Windows/macOS, webcam, mic, broadband, walled private room, government photo ID.
3. Exam fees (USD)
Terraform Associate (004): $70.50 per attempt (plus tax). No bundled retake — the lowest-cost exam covered by CertLabPro.
Terraform Authoring & Operations Professional: $295 per attempt (plus tax), includes one free retake if the first attempt fails (claim within 3 months).
4. Scheduling
Schedule any time after purchase. Slots are essentially 24/7 globally.
Reschedule/cancel up to 24 hours in advance.
5. Exam day
Launch the secure browser 15 minutes early. ID + room scan + face match.
Professional (Authoring & Operations): ~4 hours (includes a 15-minute break) in a pre-provisioned Linux environment. Scenario-based tasks; grading validates your HCL configuration, state files, and the real settings on provisioned infrastructure.
No physical materials; on-screen scratch area provided.
6. Results
Provisional pass/fail on screen at exam end. Official badge (Credly) within 5 business days, visible in HashiCorp Developer profile.
7. Retake policy
7-day wait between attempts.
Maximum 4 attempts per 12-month rolling period. Full fee per attempt.
8. Validity
Valid for 2 years. You can re-take starting 6 months before expiration; passing extends the credential by 2 years from the new pass date. Passing a higher HashiCorp Professional exam (e.g. Terraform Authoring/Operations Pro) also extends an active Associate.
